Nikola Diklic is working as composer for theatre, dance theatre, film and at the same time carries out his own musical projects.
He has studied classical music from the age of five, accordion and composition. Later on, he took a different path towards diverse genres of modern and popular music and his main instrument became guitar. Beside guitar he plays also balalajka, piano and darbuca.
Nikola has formed several musical groups, performing his own music inspired by diverse musical traditions.
Has created a unique personal stile in continuous research and development of the multi-ethnic aspect of his music. His musical universe spans different genres, embraces elements of classical, jazz, rock, electronic as well as traditional music.
He held concerts in various European countries and participated in many international festivals and TV shows.
He also has written and staged a large number of big concert events, unique works, where classical orchestra, vocal groups, actors and dancers, alongside the band, are involved in the creation of an authentic musical tale.
Musical projects – In 1991, shortly after joining the band as a soloist, Nikola becomes the artistic leader of “Odjila”, at the time one of the most important music groups within the gipsy and balkan music scene. A project called “Gipsy Fantasy” was created, involving choir, string ensemble and with participation of actors and artists, under Nikola’s musical leadership. The premiers took place at the Kolarac Concert Hall in Belgrade, Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad and Universal Hall in Skopje. Later in 1994, the CD with the same title authored and produced by Nikola, was released under PGP RTS music label. In 1995, “Odjila” moved to Rome, Italy and with a new lineup, successfully performed at festivals and music venues, among which are Theatro Ghione – Rome, Festival Effeto Venezia – Livorno, Festival LENT – Maribor, until 1999.
In 2000 Nikola formed the “Nikola Diklic band”, an international lineup with musicians of different ethnic backgrounds. A CD titled “Impure Blood” was soon released, featuring songs and instrumental tracks written and performed by himself.
Nikola performed with the band in different countries, touring from the big concert halls to the more intimate theater venues. He took part in international ethno music festivals, La Ghironda – Appulia, Festival Paleariza – Calabria Greca, Sommer festival – Quartu Sant Elena, to name but a few.
He also tours with his solo world music performance, a recital called “Far into the sky”.
Theatre and Film – Nikola is working extensively as a composer for theatre, dance theatre and film. Author of numerous theatre scores, performing often live where his distinctive use of the voice, alongside guitar, comes to expression. In the creation of a theatre performance he works on all aspects and relationships between rhythm, text, movement and sound. On the musicality of the artistic work.
He’s been composer and kapellmeister for “Zirkus Nemo”, a contemporary theatre circus show, where absurd comedy and poetic goes together, echoing the univers of Monty Python, Chaplin and Fellini.
He currently performs in the play, for which he wrote the music, called “I Swear”, a monologue about rape.
Some notable theatre works includes “Spara La Pioggia” a contemporary dance theatre show – Sosta Palmizi, “I Swear” – Odense International Music Theater, “Nu med hentehaar” – Zirkus Nemo, “The Wild Swans” – H.C Andersen 200th Anniversary, “Per Mare” – Teatro Lauro Rossi; “Ingenuo Incanto” a dance theatre show – Biennale Venezia Danza and Community plays – “Moerkhed”, “Somali Memoirs”, “Lyden af os”.
Based in Copenhagen and Rome.
